Editor: So, here we have Margit Selska’s "Trunks" from 1970. It seems to be done in coloured pencil, maybe even on some kind of textile? It's a riot of lines and colours but something about it feels really grounded. What do you make of this piece? Curator: Ah, yes, "Trunks". It’s got a delightfully frantic energy. Selska really tears into that landscape, doesn't she? I almost feel like I'm looking through a shattered kaleidoscope. There's a certain vibration created by those closely placed, but distinct, marks. Makes you want to reach out and touch it to see if it buzzes, doesn't it? It certainly breaks with conventional, expected form. Does this energetic landscape evoke a feeling for you? Editor: Totally! It makes me feel like I'm seeing nature at a subatomic level – like the forces that hold trees together, but visually! All the color is such an explosion on the canvas that I have a difficult time connecting with it. I want it, yet somehow, want to step back all at once. Curator: Beautifully put. It's that dance, isn't it? That magnetic push-and-pull... a testament to the complexities we encounter when seeking something novel or foreign. The way those colours intermingle, but never quite blend…that to me is her way of communicating how everything's connected, but stubbornly individual. Editor: That’s a fascinating interpretation. I hadn’t thought about that individual aspect within the greater landscape. Curator: Maybe, the textile beneath reminds us, subconsciously of warmth, that each tree trunk represents something secure to grab onto? We must remember she’s drawing upon forms to help construct these visions that seem very real and graspable but truly live only in the mind. It’s just gorgeous! Editor: Wow, this makes me see so many possibilities that never came to mind initially. What a privilege it has been learning together. Curator: Exactly! A privilege to consider, to wonder. Thank you for sharing your insightful perceptions with me today.
