Lara Almarcegui presents us with something unexpected: Construction Rubble of Secession's Main Hall. It is an experience of textures and colors that speak volumes about process. Imagine the feel of each mound—the rough grit of the gray rubble, the soft give of the tan sand. This isn't about concealing the hand of the artist, but rather laying bare the raw components that make up our built environment. Look at the spectrum of earth tones. They are natural, almost humble, but their arrangement is deliberate. The peaks and valleys of the piles create a landscape within a landscape, a miniature echo of the world outside. It reminds me of Robert Smithson's earthworks, but on an architectural scale, turning the inside out. Ultimately, Almarcegui challenges us to reconsider what we value in art and architecture, inviting us to find beauty in the overlooked and to question the narratives embedded in the materials around us.
