Dan Christensen made "April Blue", date unknown, and its all about color and process. Look at that dreamy blue, achieved with a spray gun, bleeding into those softly blurred circles. There’s something almost celestial about this painting, like gazing into a hazy night sky. Christensen coaxes the paint to float, to create these blurry halos. The dark vertical lines in the lower left add depth and direction. Do you see how the way the paint is applied gives it a soft, almost hazy quality? You can practically feel the artist layering color upon color. Christensen was part of the Lyrical Abstraction movement, and in his work, I see him in conversation with other colour field painters like Helen Frankenthaler. But there's also something unique here, like a secret language whispered between the colours themselves. It's more of a feeling than a statement, an invitation to simply be present.
