This elegant ewer was made by Bennett Jordan, probably sometime in the last 20 years, with glass. Imagine it molten, viscous, on the move, waiting for the breath and touch of the artist, inflated to a pearly translucence. I love the idea of working with glass, with fire. What the maker must have been thinking! It's a dance, right? There’s that perfect caramel color, so liquid, so good, so drinkable! It reminds me of a Brancusi sculpture, or maybe one of those super-refined, elegant shapes you see in the paintings of Morandi. I notice the way the curve catches the light, how its thin skin glows. Glassmaking has such a long history. Each artist is in conversation, across time, with everyone who has worked with the same material. It embodies uncertainty, capturing a particular moment. It’s never fixed, but always reflecting, refracting, and inviting new ways of seeing.
