This large painting of a woman in front of the sun was made by Joan Miró, but when? I imagine Miró dancing with the canvas, as it seems to come from a place of playful exploration, a kind of visual language that’s both ancient and totally now. The palette is so simple; red, black and white are the bones of painting, right? The paint is thin but the image is strong. Look at that big, bold red sun – it’s like a giant exclamation point! You know, painting for me is like being in a conversation with all the other painters who ever lived. Miró’s floating forms and whimsical figures remind me of Klee, but with a Spanish twist, a little bit more earthy and raw. Painters use their bodies as a language, embracing the unpredictable and the strange. There's something so open about this piece, a willingness to let go of control and see what emerges. It’s not just about what you see, but how you feel.
