This print, Visite d'Atelier, was made in 1925 by G-P. Joumard. It's all about these elegant, angular figures and the cool colours like blues and blacks. I like how the mirror makes you wonder who’s looking at whom, and what's real and what's a reflection. The artist might have been thinking about the new possibilities that came with the art deco style. The flatness of the forms and the attention to pattern gives it a kind of graphic punch. I think about other artists who were exploring similar ideas—like Matisse with his focus on decorative patterns, or Sonia Delaunay and her explorations of colour. They inspire each other, don’t they? With this print, Joumard opened up a space of imagination for us too.
