This fashion plate, ‘Très Parisien’, was printed in 1923. What I love about these images is that they capture a moment, not just in fashion but in the way we looked at ourselves. The artist - we don’t even know who they are - is trying to catch the light. See how the silver dress shimmers against those tulle frills? It’s all about texture, that play between the solid and the ephemeral. The black and white floor and the figure draw you into the scene. It’s a study in contrasts: the soft fabric against the hard lines of the floor, the delicate details against the bold shapes. I imagine the artist thinking, ‘How can I make this dress come alive on paper?’ It's about capturing a feeling, a mood, something fleeting and utterly fabulous. This plate, with its quiet geometry, reminds me that art is everywhere.
