Friedensreich Hundertwasser made this on a rainy day in Vienna, and I bet he was feeling all the feels that day. Just look at that vortex of red, green, yellow and purple – it’s like the weather inside his head. I can picture him, layering those colours, trying to capture the mood, maybe even a bit frustrated, because how can you really paint the way rain makes you feel? I feel like he was after something more than just a picture of a rainy day. Check out those raindrop shapes, some are fat and juicy, others are thin and wispy. There’s a city reflected in the dark pool at the bottom, like a blurry memory. I wonder if he felt like he was drowning in a sea of emotions, searching for a way out of a funk. Artists can be a bit like that, you know, always wrestling with their feelings, turning them into something we can all look at and say, “Yeah, I get it.”
