This is Eyvind Earle’s ‘Yosemite,’ and you can see he’s working with a very specific palette of blues, greens, whites and blacks. This choice immediately sets a mood, doesn't it? It’s about atmosphere, about feeling. Check out how Earle uses flat planes of color, the way he builds up these simplified shapes to create a sense of depth and volume. Look at the stark contrast between the dark trees and the bright snow. And then there's the snow itself, which looks so touchable. It's like he's making sculpture with paint, creating a world that’s both real and slightly unreal, a kind of stylized sublime. There's something almost theatrical about how the light hits those snow-covered branches, casting long, dramatic shadows across the scene. Earle reminds me of Milton Avery, with his shapes and colors. Ultimately, art is about translation, isn't it? How do we translate what we see and feel into something that someone else can experience? Earle does it with a confident touch.
