Carlos Sablòn painted ‘La naissance de ‘Eagle’ with what looks like thin layers of oil, allowing the colors to subtly blend and create a smooth, dreamlike surface. It’s as if the painting is a meditation, slowly built up through careful application and a delicate touch. The egg in the foreground, with its strange contents, is painted with incredible detail. See how Sablòn uses tiny brushstrokes to create the illusion of a fragile, cracking shell. The way the light glows from within the egg is particularly striking, giving it a sense of otherworldly mystery. This meticulous attention to detail contrasts with the more loosely painted landscape behind, where the mountains and water blend into a hazy horizon. The juxtaposition of precision and looseness invites us to consider the painting process itself. It reminds me a little of Odilon Redon’s symbolist landscapes. Like Redon, Sablòn uses ambiguity and evocative imagery to create a world that exists somewhere between reality and imagination, inviting us to get lost in the process of looking and discovering new meanings.
