Robert Grosvenor made this untitled sculpture with paint and metal. It's got me wondering about this color, which is a yellowy ray of sunshine kind of color. I'm imagining Robert out here, constructing this thing, figuring out how it works, how it sits in the landscape, how it breaks up the lines and creates these different viewing angles. I mean, it's almost like a doodle in space, right? A big, assertive doodle made real, where he's probably thinking, "How can I push this thing? How can I make it lean just right to mess with your perspective?" And I dig the way it messes with our sense of space. It's not just about the object itself but how it talks to the sky and the trees, like it's trying to have a conversation with the whole darn world. It reminds me of other sculptors, like Anthony Caro or even some of the land art folks, who were all about getting out of the studio and into the dirt, just stretching the idea of what sculpture can be. Ultimately, it's a reminder that art is alive and kicking.
