Robert Grosvenor created this Untitled sculpture out of steel and wood; it invites us to see the landscape in a new way. The flat, black plane of the sculpture contrasts with the rolling hills and open sky. It’s a bold statement, like a dark brushstroke across the landscape. But what's interesting is how it also frames the view, almost like a viewfinder. Grosvenor’s piece is a kind of invitation, or maybe even a dare, to reconsider our surroundings, and the way we orient ourselves in space. Think of it like a line in a drawing, where that line creates a shape, and that shape gives definition to the space around it. It reminds me of some of Donald Judd’s works, in their use of simple forms. What I enjoy is that the conversation between art and nature is ongoing, and always open to new interpretations.
