Holger Hansen made this drawing of a candlestick with what looks like graphite on paper. I can see him squinting and really observing this object, noticing every little detail. I wonder what it was like to draw something so simple, trying to get the light and shadow just right. It's funny, isn't it, how a candlestick can become so interesting when you really look at it? It reminds me of Morandi, the way he painted bottles, finding something new in the everyday. Hansen really captured the metallic feel, the way light bounces off the curves. You can almost feel the weight of it. There is also a sense of quietness, it’s very calming and peaceful. It's cool how artists keep talking to each other across time, inspiring each other to see the world in new ways.
