José Pedro Costigliolo made this 'Rombo,' sometime in the mid-20th century. It's a geometrical oil on canvas. It's all about shapes and colors, creating a world of possibilities. The texture is smooth and even. The primary colors – red, yellow, and blue – pop against the black, creating a sense of balance. There's something so satisfying about those clean lines and flat surfaces, no visible brushstrokes. I'm drawn to the arrangement, the way the shapes seem to interact with each other. Look at the way the white triangle is broken up into these smaller segments. It feels like there's movement, like everything is floating in space, which to me is what art is all about. Costigliolo reminds me of Josef Albers, both are masters of color and form. They show us how art can be both rigorous and playful, serious and lighthearted.
