This untitled print was made by Jasper Johns, using lithography on paper, and it’s all about how we see, or rather, how we *think* we see. The crisp black ink against the soft paper is very striking. The whole image plays on that classic visual trick – is it two faces looking at each other, or a vase? It's so simple, yet it messes with your brain. What I love about Johns is that he’s not trying to fool you, but to suggest that there’s no one way to look at anything. He's laying bare the bones of perception. And look at the way the lines are made, like quick, deliberate scratches, which add texture and depth, making it feel handmade, raw even. It reminds me a little of the graphic punch of Warhol, but with a quieter, more philosophical vibe. It feels like a question rather than a statement.
