Curator: Right now, we're looking at "Die Zeit raubt den Ruhm" a drawing attributed to Christoph Jamnitzer, done in ink, graphite, chalk and coloured pencil on paper. Editor: Wow, what a dynamic sketch! I feel this intense feeling of fleeing, as if a beautiful moment is being snatched away... there's a melancholic sense of lost glory. Curator: The title translates to "Time Steals Fame," which sums up the scene nicely. Chronos, or Time, is depicted with wings, and he’s seizing a female figure, the personification of Fame, while a horse gallops away. Editor: I see, it really is a battle for remembrance. And to the left, there’s another figure carrying what appears to be a torch and... a heart? Curator: That’s correct. It adds another layer to the allegorical struggle between Time and lasting recognition. The heart probably represents love or passion, elements Chronos might also diminish. I see it all tied to a broader humanist reflection. Editor: It's the quick, expressive line work that grabs me. You can almost feel the movement, the frantic energy. Notice how the contours aren’t precisely defined; it feels like a snapshot of a fleeting concept. The texture created using the chalk technique certainly reinforces a transient temporal landscape. Curator: I agree completely. Jamnitzer has captured this idea of how things disappear and become fainter and how art must respond to temporality. Editor: I’ll definitely walk away contemplating what it is that I wish to preserve from time’s relentless theft. What about you? Curator: For me it raises such potent thoughts about the power and perils of our own actions! I shall take from it that nothing lasts, even drawings.
