Biography
Christoph Jamnitzer (1563-1618) was a German goldsmith, draftsman, and printmaker known for his intricate and fantastical designs. Jamnitzer's work often featured grotesque figures, hybrid animals, and elaborate ornamental details. His engravings were particularly popular for their use in decorative arts, and his designs influenced goldsmiths and other artisans across Europe. He is best known for his "Perspectiva Corporum Regularium" (1568), a treatise on perspective and geometric forms. Jamnitzer's work exemplifies the intricate and often bizarre aesthetic of Mannerist art, which emphasized a playful and intellectual approach to artistic expression.
