Harrie Gerritz made this print called Compositie met toren, or Composition with Tower, at an unknown date. It's a playful arrangement of simple shapes, like a visual puzzle made with crayons. The first thing I notice is the tower, of course, a long red form outlined in black, kind of shaky, like a kid drew it. Next to it, there’s a yellow curve, a wonky C-shape, and a wavy line with blue blobs. I imagine Gerritz moving these shapes around, trying different arrangements until they felt right. It’s interesting to think about what he was thinking. Was he trying to make a serious statement or just having some fun? Maybe he was inspired by other artists like Matisse or Miró, who also played with simple forms and colors. For me, this piece is all about the joy of making. It's a reminder that art doesn't have to be perfect or serious. It can be spontaneous, messy, and full of surprises.
