About this artwork
Editor: This is Anish Kapoor's "Untitled" piece from the Tate Collection. The texture is really striking. What can you tell me about it? Curator: This piece invites us to consider the materiality of sculpture. How does Kapoor's choice of plaster and the process of its application affect the viewer’s experience? Editor: It seems almost organic, like something growing out of the wall. Curator: Exactly. The rough texture and the form itself challenge the traditional separation of high art and craft. It makes you think about the artist's labor, doesn’t it? Editor: It does! I never considered the artist's work. Curator: Considering the means of production changes everything, doesn’t it? Editor: Absolutely. I'll never look at sculpture the same way again!
