Curatorial notes
This is 'Klapstoel bij raam' by Harrie Gerritz. It looks like a drawing or print, and it’s all about the attitude of the line. I love how this simple image becomes a whole story. The chair, the window, and that little speech bubble - it’s all so delicately rendered. The line is thin and hesitant, like a thought barely formed. Look at how the chair leans, kind of slouching, as though waiting. It's that slight awkwardness that gives the print its charm. It reminds me of the way Giacometti’s drawings capture a sense of fleeting, fragile existence. There’s a feeling of stillness, but also anticipation, as if something is about to happen. This piece is a reminder that art doesn't need to shout to be heard. Sometimes, the quietest voices are the most powerful.
