Harrie Gerritz made this print, "Klapstoel bij raam," which translates to "Folding Chair by Window," and it’s like gazing into a quiet moment, captured with such delicate lines. Imagine Gerritz, back in his studio, maybe thinking about Hopper, but with a Dutch sensibility, etching away at the plate, line by line. You can almost hear the scratching of the needle, each stroke defining the contours of the chair, the frame of the window. There’s a kind of stillness here. Look at the slight awkwardness of the chair, tilted just so, as if someone just got up and left. And that little cloud shape next to the window with the text, it looks like a thought bubble. What's the story? What was in need of adjustment? I love that the answer is hidden. It's this kind of quiet observation, where the everyday becomes extraordinary, that reminds us how much there is to see, if we just take a moment to look.
