Carel Adolph Lion Cachet made this piece, Tocht van a naar b door 't volumineus idee, at some point in his life using paper and mixed media. Imagine him there, trying to capture a narrative, a journey, in these little vignettes stacked one above the other like scenes in a comic strip. There's this lovely, light touch in the way he's rendered these figures, almost like doodles, yet each scene is so full of life and movement. Look at the use of watercolor washes, so delicate, yet they bring so much atmosphere to each panel. It's as if Cachet is inviting us into his own stream of consciousness, sharing these fleeting moments and ideas. I'm really drawn to how the artist lets the ink bleed and the colors blend. This reminds me of the spontaneity you find in the work of Philip Guston, the way he embraced the messy side of art-making. It’s as if Cachet is saying, "Here's my thinking, raw and unfiltered." This piece feels like a wonderful reminder that art is often about the journey, not just the destination.
