Lidy Prati made *Variaciones sobre distinto fondo* using paint, probably oil or acrylic. Right away, you get a sense of thoughtful placement with those carefully drawn lines and geometric shapes dancing across the canvas, like a well-choreographed ballet. The color palette is restrained, almost muted, but that makes the occasional pop of red even more exciting! Look at how Prati uses the texture of the paint to create subtle variations in the surface. The paint looks thinly applied, allowing the canvas to peek through in places, which gives the painting an airy, almost ethereal quality. Notice that black boomerang shape in the bottom left? Its sharp angles and bold presence create a visual anchor, grounding the composition. Prati’s work shares some common ground with that of Piet Mondrian, but her approach is more playful and less dogmatic. For both artists, abstraction is an ongoing conversation, a way of pushing the boundaries of what painting can be.
