This ‘Konstruktion’ painting, by László Moholy-Nagy, it’s like he’s building a city, or maybe deconstructing one? The simple geometric forms sit on this cracked, chalky blue ground. I like how the shapes are semi-transparent, like he’s layering panes of colored glass, or maybe experimenting with early computer graphics. I can almost see him in his studio, carefully measuring, masking, and brushing on each precisely placed shape. The yellow form almost reads like an upside down ‘L’ shape. The pale one next to it feels tentative, like a ghost. Then comes the bold black bar, asserting its presence with confidence. Moholy-Nagy was part of the Bauhaus, where artists were reimagining art, design, and technology. This piece feels like it’s part of that conversation, with its playful approach to form and color. Painting here is like a philosophical question. It’s never just one thing, and that's what keeps me coming back.
