Csokonal: "Short Day, Long Night" 1982

Maria Bozoky made this work, "Short Day, Long Night" with ink and watercolor on paper. These are quite traditional media, but here they’re used in a manner that feels exploratory, immediate. The washes of watercolor create a foundation of pale blues and grays, over which the ink lines dance. Note how the ink doesn't just describe form, but also creates a sense of restless energy. The lines loop and swirl, suggesting hair, perhaps, or even thoughts. The artist's hand is very evident in the drawing.
