David Michael Hinnebusch made this painting, ‘Brin and Glare at It,’ on canvas. It’s as if I can feel Hinnebusch standing in front of the canvas, brush in hand, making quick, gestural marks. The color palette is all over the place, a kind of dance between bright yellows and deep blues. He’s not holding back, you know? I get the feeling that he just allowed things to happen, layer upon layer. I am drawn to the central figures—who are they? There is a kind of wild freedom there. And that paint, thick in some places, thin in others, really brings the image to life. It reminds me a bit of other painters who aren't afraid to get messy. The way he embraces the unexpected, the rough edges, feels so fresh. It's like we’re all in conversation, bouncing ideas off each other across time and space. Painting, for me, is this ongoing exchange. It’s about embracing the uncertainty, the mess, and seeing what emerges.
