William Young Ottley made this etching, "Landschap met een pelgrim en een herder" in the late 18th or early 19th century. It depicts an idealised landscape featuring figures of a pilgrim and a shepherd. This picturesque scene echoes the pastoral tradition, popular in Britain at this time, which looked back to classical ideals of rural life.
