This photograph, “Woningpark,” was taken in August 1926 by an anonymous photographer. It shows a row of houses, their rooftops creating a rhythmic pattern against the sky. I wonder what it was like for this artist to create it? There's an openness in this composition, a directness that feels almost accidental, yet there is an intentionality to the ordering of houses, a sense of space that's carefully considered. It reminds me of Edward Hopper, how the mundane becomes iconic through light, shadow, and the framing of ordinary scenes. Think about how the artist made choices: where to stand, when to shoot, what to include. Each decision shapes our experience, revealing and concealing aspects of the world. Photography is an ongoing conversation across time, and photographers inspire one another’s creativity. Each one of us are, in a way, continuing to shape the stories they tell.
