Lech Jankowski made this painting, 2nd letter to Mr Issa, without specifying the date, using oil on board. The way the paint is layered here is just so evocative, like a geological formation or maybe even some kind of memory palace. You can almost feel the artist building up these surfaces, one touch at a time. Look at the way the paint sits on the surface, thick and opaque, almost like a relief. The colors are muted, a symphony of blues, browns, and grays that create a sense of depth and mystery. There's a tension between the geometric structure of the box and the more organic form of the object it contains. Notice the fine line arcing across the top of the painting, it almost seems to be tethering the box to some other place. This piece reminds me a little of Morandi, in the way it elevates the everyday to the level of the sublime. I think Jankowski invites us to slow down, to pay attention to the quiet beauty of the world around us.
