This drawing, made with watercolor and graphite on paper, shows a sofa. And you know, it's funny, I almost never paint from life anymore, but there was a time when I really liked to get the thing in front of me, to try and nail it – the color, the shape, how it sits in space. I wonder if the person who made this was trying to describe it to someone, to propose an idea? It is the kind of drawing you would make to show someone something. I love the slight blurriness of the image. It feels like a suggestion, rather than a didactic statement. And look at those legs! I feel like those are the star of the show! They feel like the artist put all their love into depicting them. You know, drawing a thing is a lot like actually making the thing. I guess that's why I can relate to it so much. It's all connected: thought, gesture, object, image.
