This anonymous Chandelier sits here in the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and what strikes me is how it embraces the idea of artmaking as a process. The curves and colors feel so intuitive, like a dance of light and form. Looking closely, you can see the physicality of the medium. The surface shimmers with a mix of gold, pink, and green. It feels like each layer was carefully considered. Notice how the lines ripple and swirl, almost like water reflecting light. The artist's touch is so present, even though we don't know who they are. There is such a beautiful mark-making that feels both controlled and spontaneous. This piece reminds me a little of some of the glass work that Dale Chihuly did later, with its emphasis on color and fluid forms. Both artists seem to understand that art is an ongoing conversation, and I like that. It's a reminder that art is always evolving, always open to new interpretations.
