Josef Capek made this painting, 'In the Sun (Golden Path Walk)' with oil, in what looks like a pretty free way. Check out how the artist makes marks in this painting, with quick, visible strokes. It’s not trying to trick you into thinking it’s a photo, right? It's all about the feel of being in the sun. The paint is applied pretty directly, and the colours are bold and optimistic, like sunshine on your skin. I love how the artist uses these almost graphic blue dashes to create the atmosphere, they are like a code for the sunlight itself. They give the eye a rhythm and create an overall feeling, the artist isn't too fussy about detail and form, more interested in feeling, a child's view of the world, all warmth and possibility. This freedom reminds me a bit of Joan Miro. Art isn't about getting it right, it's about keeping it open.
