Victor Brauner made this painting, "Paysage", with oil paint in 1953. It's all about simple shapes and bold colors, like a kid's drawing but with a grown-up's touch. I can almost see Brauner standing in front of the canvas, mixing up those bright blues and purples. There’s something so hopeful in that yellow sun, isn't there? It feels like he’s trying to make sense of the world, one brushstroke at a time. The way he flattens everything out reminds me of folk art, where the story matters more than getting the perspective perfect. Look how he makes the trees look like lollipops and how he’s created space with blocks of color; it’s like he’s telling a story about a dream landscape. And like all good dreamscapes, we're invited to dream it for ourselves.
