Romul Nutiu created Dynamic Universe XXIV with paint, but it is not dated. Looking at this, I'm thinking about what paint can do, how it moves, and the gestures it can capture. The colors – primarily reds, blues, and blacks – swirl and blend, creating a sense of movement. The paint looks almost marbled. I bet the painting was laid flat and the artist let gravity have its say. See how the red drips and pools? It’s like watching magma flow, a powerful, unstoppable force. There's a real physicality to this, like Nutiu was wrestling with the paint, trying to capture something wild and untamed. It makes me think of Pat Steir's waterfall paintings, letting the paint cascade down the canvas. Both artists let go of control. And for both artists, the result feels monumental, like a force of nature caught in a frame. Art's not about answers, right? It's about the questions we ask and the journeys we take while trying to figure things out.
