Dynamic Universe XXIV is an abstract painting by Romul Nutiu. It has these incredible swirls of red, blue, black, and white. I can only imagine what it was like for Nutiu to create this. He probably started with big, sweeping gestures, laying down the red like hot lava. Then, the cool blues and stark blacks come in, cutting through the warmth, creating depth and drama. It feels like a dance, a push and pull between intention and accident. Look how the colors blend and bleed into one another. It's not just about the colors themselves but how they interact, how they create new shades and tones in the process. This back-and-forth probably mirrors the “dynamic universe” he was trying to capture. Nutiu is in conversation with other painters, I think, like Helen Frankenthaler, with her soak-stain technique. It’s like they’re all asking: how can painting capture a feeling, a moment, a universe? For Nutiu, it's about embracing the mess, letting the paint do its thing, and finding meaning in the chaos.
