Landschap met vijvers en een kerk

Curatorial notes
Eduard Weichberger created this landscape with ponds and a church using etching. At its heart, the church acts as a beacon, not merely of faith, but of stability amidst the unpredictable waters of life. The church's silhouette against the sky echoes the ancient symbol of the axis mundi, the world's center. Recall the Tower of Babel, or the ziggurats of Mesopotamia, where structures sought to bridge the earthly and divine realms. The pond, too, is more than a body of water; it is a mirror reflecting our subconscious. Water, in the collective psyche, represents fluidity, change, and the depths of emotion. Consider how these symbols recur throughout art history, morphing yet retaining their essence. This interplay evokes a primordial yearning—a bridge between the temporal and eternal. Weichberger taps into this deep reservoir, engaging us in a silent dialogue. It's a reminder of how symbols continuously resurface.
