Endre Rozsda made "La Tour" with oil on canvas, and it’s a trip. Just look at that palette of creams, blues, reds, and golds, swirling together. I can just imagine Rozsda building up those layers, scraping back, adding more – a real back-and-forth process. What was Rozsda thinking when he made this? I love how the blues and blacks up top sort of coagulate into this dense mass, but then these golden tendrils reach up, trying to break through. And those little red dots scattered throughout – they’re like exclamation points, adding a touch of chaos. It makes me think of other painters who were pushing abstraction in their own way. There's a real conversation going on between artists across time, with each one inspiring the next to see the world a little differently. For me, painting is all about embracing the unknown, so who knows what the artist intended, but it’s up for grabs.
