This photograph of Gezicht op de Joriskerk te Borculo was made by an anonymous photographer. It’s all about process, right? I’m drawn to the way the monochrome tones create a sense of depth and texture, especially the way the light filters through the trees, creating a dappled effect on the church. It’s like a painting in shades of gray, where the absence of color makes you focus on the subtle variations in tone and texture. There's this fascinating tension between the solid, imposing structure of the church and the soft, organic forms of the trees surrounding it. It’s as if the photographer is inviting us to consider the relationship between the man-made and the natural, the permanent and the fleeting. It reminds me a bit of Gerhard Richter’s landscapes. There’s a similar sense of ambiguity and quiet contemplation. Ultimately, art is about asking questions, not providing answers.
