This ‘Untitled’ photograph was captured by Thomas Roma. Imagine being there, in the crowd, Roma probably got into position, framing his subjects carefully, and patiently waited for the right moment to press the shutter. He probably had to anticipate and watch for spontaneous moments and gestures. In this black and white photograph, the tonal range creates the atmosphere, illuminating certain figures in the crowd, leaving others obscured in shadow. The composition feels both spontaneous and intentional. The expressions and gestures of the women draw you in, creating a narrative that feels intimate and personal. I am reminded of other photographers like Roy DeCarava, who found beauty in everyday moments and elevated them to art. Photography is a form of art, and a way of seeing. The artist captures a fleeting moment in time. They invite us to reflect on our own experiences and perceptions.
