Alfred Freddy Krupa made this on paper with ink, probably sometime in the 90s, it's signed '92. I can imagine Krupa standing there, quickly flicking the brush, trying to capture the atmosphere of the beach. This feels like a place, somewhere he’s been, that he knows well. He doesn't fuss with the details, instead he relies on these intense black marks. It’s a real all-over composition, with bold brushstrokes that dart and dance. The ink is so intense against the white of the paper. It’s like he’s inking in the shadows, and the light is what’s left unpainted. It’s so direct, and immediate – it’s emotional. Artists like Krupa remind us of all the many ways we can feel and see, and think. It’s a conversation across time, a generous exchange between feeling and form.
