This textile artwork was created by John Osbold, though we don’t know exactly when it was made. It looks like it was created with wool. I just love the way the colour merges and swirls, creating these simple forms. I can imagine the artist making each individual stitch, almost like a drawing or painting with thread. The texture here is remarkable, isn’t it? It's as if the story itself is woven into the very fabric of the artwork, and it gives the piece an almost tactile quality. Notice the dress of the woman, how the lines of stitching create movement and depth and gives the figure three dimensionality. There’s something so comforting about that figure, isn’t there? It reminds me of the art of Henri Rousseau, with its dreamlike imagery and fairytale quality. Like Rousseau, Osbold embraces simplicity, allowing the viewer to bring their own interpretation to the work, finding beauty in the everyday.
