Charlotte Posenenske created "Relief, Series B," part of her exploration into minimalist sculpture, during a time of significant social and political change in post-war Germany. Posenenske was deeply engaged with Marxist theory and sought to challenge the art world’s traditional structures and commodification of art. Her reliefs, often made from industrial materials, reflect her commitment to creating art that could be accessible and relevant to everyday life. "I make series because I don’t want to make individual pieces for a person who wants to own something," Poseneske said. Her works invite us to consider how art can disrupt established hierarchies. The black monochrome panels, mounted on the wall, have a somber quality, prompting reflection on issues of labor, production, and the role of art in society. Posenenske's decision to abandon art in favor of sociology underscores her belief in the power of collective action. Her artistic practice remains a testament to the enduring connection between art, politics, and social justice.
