Jan Dibbets created this photo collage ‘Panorama Dutch Mountain’ by putting together a series of photographs. What's interesting is the use of multiple panels, which gives it a fragmented feel. It's almost like the artist is saying, hey, vision isn't a single, unified thing. The horizon line shifts, and that disrupts the sense of a seamless view. I can only imagine what Jan was thinking when he made this. Maybe he was interested in mapping or cataloging. The lines and protractor feel so decisive. By marking a central vanishing point, it reminds us of a classical landscape painting, but then undermines it by revealing its constructed nature. It is an interplay between the real and the artificial, inviting us to question our perceptions and the conventions of representation. It's like he's inviting us to see the world in a new way. Photography is more about ideas than documentation here. We artists are in an ongoing conversation, inspiring each other to see and think differently.
