Curator: Richard Smith's "III" has such a compelling sense of suspended architecture. Editor: It looks like wings about to take flight. I love the muted, almost melancholic, blue. Curator: Smith often explored the idea of constructed space and implied movement in his work. Note how the geometric shapes seem to both intersect and project outwards. Editor: The symmetry is deceiving. It feels like a reflection on fractured perspectives, or perhaps the instability of constructed realities. Curator: Absolutely. He was interested in challenging the viewer's perception. Editor: There’s a sense of unease, a suggestion that the foundation might not be so solid after all. Curator: A fitting observation. Smith's work often touches upon that very tension. Editor: It makes me think about the foundations on which we build our societal structures, and how fragile they really are. Curator: A pertinent way to frame this work. Editor: Well, I will think about this for a while.
