Pavlo Makov made this painting called 'Anticipation' with who knows what—but the result is something special. Looking at this piece, I can almost feel the artist's hand moving across the canvas, the push and pull of colours, like the deep reds and that inky black, wrestling with the emerging forms. It's like a landscape, but also a map, and a feeling all at once. I wonder if Makov felt like he was building a world here, one layer at a time. You know, I have those days in the studio when the painting starts to lead me, and I'm just trying to keep up. Maybe he was thinking about how we connect to places, how we build them, and what it means to wait for something that might be coming. It reminds me a little of some of those surrealist landscapes, like Tanguy, where the world feels both familiar and totally alien. It’s like artists are always talking to each other across time, picking up where someone else left off, and adding their own little twist. It’s like painting is an open-ended question we’re all trying to answer.
