Pavlo Makov made "Night (colour insert from Abracadabra)" using a mixed media technique that feels both precise and dreamy. The color palette is subdued, mostly greens and grays, but with these little pops of red that catch your eye. It's like Makov is letting the process guide him, seeing where the materials take him. The texture here is fascinating; you can almost feel the roughness of the paper and the delicate layers of ink or paint. The way the aloe plant dominates the composition, with its spiky leaves reaching up into that dark, smoky sky, it feels almost gothic. Then you notice the tiny, almost architectural details at the base, these little structures or monuments. It reminds me a bit of Piranesi, that sense of epic scale combined with intimate detail. Ultimately, Makov reminds us that art isn't about answers but about asking questions and embracing the unknown.
