Laolu Senbanjo's 'Untitled' is a large canvas covered in vibrant, swirling patterns. It's easy to imagine him, brush in hand, totally immersed in the act of painting, shifting and adjusting, letting intuition guide his every move. Look at the way the black and white of the figure pops against the background. I love the patterns; there's an incredible energy to them. You can sense the push and pull between control and spontaneity. The figure almost seems to be emerging from the painting, a symbol of creativity and expression. The patterns on the figure’s body merge with those of the environment, suggesting connections between identity, culture, and the body. Painters are always in dialogue, aren't they? Laolu Senbanjo’s work reminds me of the work of artists like Keith Haring or Jean-Michel Basquiat. The act of painting embraces ambiguity and uncertainty, welcoming multiple readings, so just go with your feelings!
