This is a composite print of five details of the Seville Cathedral, made by an anonymous artist. Constructed in the early 16th century on the site of a former mosque, the cathedral embodies the complex cultural and religious history of Spain. In the details captured here, we see a dialogue between the sacred and the secular, the divine and the human. From ornate liturgical objects to elaborate carvings and sculptural details, the building is a powerful symbol of both religious devotion and imperial ambition. But how do these details speak to those who built and maintained the cathedral? What stories are absent from this grand narrative, and whose voices remain unheard within its walls? Ultimately, this image prompts us to reflect on the power dynamics inherent in architectural spaces and to consider whose stories are privileged in the construction of cultural heritage.
