Albert Levone made this small painting of a lamp with watercolor on paper. The color palette is muted, earthy – with browns, pinks, and grays – giving the piece a quiet, contemplative feel; it seems like Levone was exploring the process of seeing. I’m particularly drawn to the body of the lamp, where the paint is layered in such a way that you can almost feel the smooth, cool metal. There's a beautiful tension between the object’s solidity and the watery washes of color that create its form. The paint is thin, almost transparent in places, allowing the texture of the paper to peek through, which gives the lamp a sense of depth and dimensionality. The lamp feels both familiar and strange, like a memory half-forgotten. It reminds me of Giorgio Morandi's still lifes, how he turned everyday objects into things of mystery and beauty. It's a gentle reminder that art isn't about answers, but about the questions it provokes.
