Sometime around 1928 in Nuremberg, an anonymous photographer captured these black and white photos of the Wachenheimer family. Looking at these images, I imagine the photographer carefully composing each shot, considering light, shadow, and the arrangement of figures within the frame. There is a sense of formality in the poses, but also warmth and connection between the family members. The subjects are situated outdoors, which perhaps makes the composition less formal than it would be if they were in a studio. I wonder about the stories held within these photos, the relationships, the moments of joy and sorrow. Each wrinkle and expression tells a story. As an artist, I appreciate the photographer's ability to capture not just a likeness, but a sense of humanity. It’s kind of amazing to consider how one artist's vision can speak to another across time, inspiring new ways of seeing and feeling.
