This is a black and white photo of Wilhelmina van Zijll de Jong with an unknown person in a garden. It was taken by an anonymous photographer and the date is unknown. I wonder what the photographer was thinking at that moment. What was it like to capture this scene? These women look like they're wearing matching outfits – suits and hats – and are standing in front of a garden wall. The light and shadow create a kind of contrast that brings out the textures in the clothing and the bark of the tree. Photography is such a tricky medium, isn’t it? What do you think they were talking about? Were they friends, sisters, or maybe even partners? I can almost feel the warmth of the sun on their faces and imagine the sound of birds chirping in the background. These women are together in this little moment in time – captured forever.
