This ‘Combination Peg Lamp/Candleholder’ was made by John Cutting, who lived between 1855 and 1995. I love how this object is a drawing of a brass object. Cutting is depicting both the light that the objects emits, and the way the light falls on the object. The evenness of the drawing and the way he graduates the tones to make them seem round... I think he wanted to make them as precise as possible! Imagine Cutting sitting there, perhaps in a dim room lit by a similar lamp or candleholder, meticulously capturing every curve and contour. I like that the object combines two things; maybe the artist was also thinking about his combination of vision and depiction.
